Is a product microsite a bad idea for google [closed]

Question:

Tag: seo,google-search,backlink

I am a bit confused to if a product microsite/brochure site is a bad idea. Since back links are not a good thing.

I've read a fair few articles but couldn't get to any conclusion.

Basically I have this client how sells online hundreds of products on their main website. But they also manufacture about 10 of those products, these products have their own name, etc. And are also listed in the main website online shopping.

We are now considering creating a brochure site for each of the products they manufacture (10 products only). Obviously the parent company will be mentioned in the text on the micro site and there will also be a link back to the shop. But there will be more information on the microsite than there is in the shop on the main site. So the main site will sell online, the micro site won't and there will be more information.

Is it a bad thing for Google's eyes? Can anyone mention any successful example?

Answer:

No, in your case it will not be perceived as a bad thing, because you are doing it for users, to describe your products. You are not trying to spam or manipulate rankings.

By default, a microsite is not a bad thing for Google. It is not automatically promoted or demoted. It all depends on the content and its relevancy for user queries. If users like it, Google will put you on top of search pages.
